What Does Facelift Mean?

You have heard of a facelift and it sounds like it could be pretty self-explanatory but what does facelift actually mean? Who is a good candidate for a facelift? Are there different types of facelifts? All of these are good questions that we would love to answer and more! If you think a facelift might even be something you are slightly interested in, then this article is for you.

What does facelift mean?

A facelift addresses signs of aging that impact the face. These changes, such as sagging skin, are caused by gravity over time along with other environmental factors. Dictionary.com defines facelift as: plastic surgery on the face for elevating sagging tissues and eliminating wrinkles and other signs of age; rhytidectomy.

The original facelift was through plastic surgery, however nowadays there are actually non-surgical facelift options as well. Any facelift is meant to help improve the signs of aging to the face as a whole, rather than the other options that target a specific area of the face or neck. Think of it as more of a catch-all phrase for all the various options you can do to improve the signs of aging that can be done as a procedure rather than an at home type remedy like a cream.

Getting a facelift is a faster way to improve your facial appearance with the help of an experienced team. It is important to note, that different people will be best fit for different procedures depending on that person’s goals. Facelifts can address multiple areas and concerns at one time. Here at Perich Aesthetics, we offer fast and economical facelift procedures to improve the appearance of:

  • wrinkles,

  • nasolabial folds (laugh lines),

  • sagging cheeks,

  • jowls,

  • undefined jawline,

  • droopy eyes

What happens during a facelift?

During a facelift, the face can have the skin tightened or removed, fat can be remodeled or removed, and the tissue and underlying muscles can also be tightened and targeted. Often the appearance of wrinkles is addressed. The neck area can also be tightened and/or have fat or skin removed.

Surgical facelifts have the objective to remove, reshape, and reposition. A traditional surgical facelift will produce results that can be dramatic quickly once the full recovery has happened. There is downtime required for this recovery and there can be some minor scarring that can occur at the site of the incision. Clients may experience pain, swelling, bruising, and inflammation at the surgical site. However, these symptoms usually subside within a few days, and most people can go back to work and light activities 2 weeks after their procedure.

Non-surgical facelifts focus more on the remodeling and tightening without skin removal. Non-surgical facelifts cause minimal scarring and require little downtime. You’ll enjoy subtle, natural results that create a younger, more alert appearance. The results can take longer to see fully as oftentimes the stimulation of collagen has taken place which gives the body the ability to produce more collagen in the specific area is was not previously producing. Most clients can return to work and other activities right away, although it’s important to avoid disrupting the treated area in the weeks after surgery.

What are the different types of facelifts?

There are two main categories of facelifts: traditional facelift surgery and non-surgical facelift. The most common traditional facelift surgery that we conduct at Perich Aesthetics, is the Mid-Face Lift.

Mid-face lift surgery can dramatically improve the appearance of cheeks, elevate sagging skin tissue, restore loss of shape and definition, and eliminate deep creases and wrinkles. Facelift surgery will reduce nasolabial folds, and tighten jowls while creating a lifted, more youthful appearance.

A non-surgical facelift is a combination of minimally invasive and non-surgical procedures, designed to rejuvenate and refresh your facial appearance. There are a variety of non-surgical facelifts to be considered all targeting specific areas of concerns. Let’s take a look at some of the most common non-surgical facelifts:

MINT Thread Lift:

Perich Aesthetics surgeons offer minimally invasive nonsurgical thread (MINT) lift, which addresses signs of aging that impact the mid-face area. Absorbable sutures visibly lift and rejuvenate the skin. This facelift can be conducted in an office setting under local anesthesia.

PDO Threads lift portions of the skin to tighten it and stimulate the body’s natural healing response to direct large surges of collagen to treated areas. The MINT PDO has its patented manufacturing process which creates these threads with barbs that are formed around the suture in 360° helical pattern. The patented helical pattern of the barbs amplifies the anchoring and tensile strength of the thread by fixating onto the 3D skin tissues in various directions.

This procedure is most appropriate for individuals who have mild to moderate facial sagging, typically those between their late 30s and mid-50s. It also provides a safe, effective alternative to a traditional facelift for patients who cannot undergo open surgery because of cardiovascular problems or other health issues.

FaceTite:

FaceTite is a nonsurgical facelift alternative that uses radio frequency (RF) energy to target fat and loose skin in the face and neck. By simultaneously melting fat and tightening the skin, a FaceTite treatment can effectively counter common signs of aging to create a more youthful appearance done in one hour in our office.

FaceTite is a handheld device that transmits safe, FDA-approved radio frequency waves into the body. As these energy waves pass through the skin and soft tissues, they melt away excess fat in a process called Radiofrequency-Assisted Lipolysis (RFAL). The RF waves also tighten loose skin and stimulate collagen formation so that the results continue to improve over the months following the procedure.

In addition, FaceTite is the most advanced treatment available for minimally invasive body contouring. It is safe, gentle, and leaves no visible scars. Also, it involves minimal recovery time so you can get back to normal activities. The FaceTite procedure can instantly reduce facial fat, reduce the appearance of jowls, and tighten skin by 40%, making you look and feel younger. If you want to remove excess fat and get a mini facelift, there is no better procedure than FaceTite.

AccuTite:

AccuTite skin tightening treatment is a ground-breaking minimally invasive technology designed to tighten the skin in small or hard-to-reach areas such as eye bags, upper and lower eyelids, nasolabial folds, and knees. Like FaceTite, it uses radio frequency assisted lipolysis technology, which tightens skin and liquifies fat cells. Additionally, there are virtually no incisions, no scars, and a minimal recovery period.

During an AccuTite Skin Tightening Treatment, first, you will have the area of interest numbed with a local anesthetic. Next, we insert a very fine probe through the skin via a tiny incision into the fatty layer, just beneath the surface. AccuTite treats the saggy tissue of interest utilizing the proprietary radio-frequency assisted lipolysis technology. The treated areas subsequently undergo three-dimensional remodeling or shrinking. The results are seen immediately. The patient’s face continues to improve and heal over the course of the next 4 months.

AccuTite Skin Tightening Treatment is designed for patients with mild to significant skin laxity interested in looking more youthful. Additionally, these patients are typically not candidates for more invasive surgeries such as a facelift or neck lift, or simply do not want the associated significant scars or downtime of more invasive surgical procedures.

Morpheus8:

Morpheus8 is a microneedling device that utilizes radio frequency energy to remodel and contour the face and body via subdermal adipose remodeling. With the microneedling, Morpheus8 is a fractional treatment penetrates deep into the skin and fat for a smoother and sleeker appearance.

Microneedling is a scientifically proven method to reduce wrinkles and rebuild collagen. During the procedure, we insert a matrix of micro pins to renew deeper layers of the skin. Radiofrequency (RF) energy heats the deep layers of the skin in a controlled manner to revitalize the collagen. This treatment helps to improve skin complexion and texture for a more radiant and youthful appearance.

By targeting the deeper layers of the skin, the building blocks will reorganize themselves in a natural anti-aging process. There is little to no damage to the dermis and this procedure provides an extremely uniform effect. Morpheus8 can be combined with PRP therapy for optimal results!

PRP Therapy:

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses injections of a concentration of your own platelets to accelerate the healing of damaged skin, restore loss of collagen in your skin, and improve color and volume of your hair. In this way, PRP injections use your own healing system.

PRP therapy is also called a “Vampire Facelift” as it naturally uses your own rich in nutrients blood to fight the signs of aging. It triggers collagen production and combined with other aesthetic procedures, helps to tighten, smooth and lift your face.
