Are Lip Fillers Permanet?

Lip fillers have taken center stage over the last few years. It seems like everyone in Hollywood is having bigger and fuller lips than in the past but understanding how they work is very important before you take the dive.

First and foremost, lip fillers are considered a semi-permanent treatment. That means the results will last for months, however over time, your body will break down the hydraulic acid and the fullness will decrease. Additionally, it can take more than one treatment to see the full results you are looking for. It is always recommended to go slow at first as we need to ensure you do not have any adverse effects. Also it is important to let your lips adjust to the new fillers prior to going crazy full the first time around.

Although we at Perich Aesthetics do not do a full lip implant to have a permanent solution, some places may offer this. We do not recommend this track however, especially before you ever have any fillers first. The hydraulic acid fillers are a safer choice for your body, as our bodies already make hydraulic acid. As with any implants, things can go astray over time as well. The implants can feel very odd in your skin considering this part of the body is used constantly everyday for eating and speaking.

How do lip fillers work?

Lip fillers rely on a naturally occurring compound called hyaluronic acid (HA), which is found in the body, to plump your lips. HA helps maintain hydration and fullness. When the HA filler is applied to lips, they inflate, which creates the appearance of fuller, plumper lips. Lip augmentation with injectable fillers is a fast, safe, simple, and effective treatment that can lift, enhance and balance the lips. With age, people generally produce less HA, collagen and elastin, which all contribute to keeping lips plump and hydrated.

Are there different kinds of lip fillers?

Yes! We have three favorite brands that each tailor to specific needs. We use the following brands in our lip filler practice: Juvederm® Ultra, Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC, Restylane® Kysse and Revenesse® Versa™ Lips. The products generally vary in the consistency of the gels, ranging from thin to thick. The best way to understand which product is best for you, is through a consultation with an experienced doctor like Dr. Perich here at Perich Aesthetics.

What happens after treatment? Will I see the results immediately?

You will see results immediately! There is no downtime or scaring involved. The procedure is affordable and restores your vibrant look with minimal pain and discomfort. Plus, the results may last up to a year and are reversible. To reduce the side effects of swelling or bruising, we also recommend that patients don’t consume garlic, ginger, vitamin E, Advil, ginseng and ginkgo biloba for two weeks following the procedure. Post-procedure, patients should avoid alcohol for 24 hours and also the sun, strenuous exercise, saunas, hot tubs and hot showers.
