Are Lip Fillers Painful?

Have you been dreaming of fuller lips without a crazy makeup hack? Waking up to a beautiful pout you know is a possibility but maybe you are hesitant due to worries about getting lip fillers as a painful process. This leads to so many questions: how long does it take to get lip fillers? Does it hurt to get lip fillers? Is it painful after you get lip fillers? The list can go on and on as your mind runs wild. Let’s easy those thoughts once and for all.

What are lip fillers and how do they work?

We think it is important to understand what lip fillers are and how they work to better understand the potential for pain when getting lip fillers. When the hyaluronic acid filler is applied to lips, they inflate, which creates the appearance of fuller, plumper lips.

Lip fillers rely on a naturally occurring compound called hyaluronic acid (HA), which is found in the body, to plump your lips. HA helps maintain hydration and fullness. Our doctors and practitioners inject the lip filler into soft tissue to enhance the appearance and volume of your lips, reduce asymmetry and improve shape. The bio-compatible gel is gradually and safely absorbed into the body.

Lip augmentation with injectable fillers is a fast, safe, simple, and effective treatment that can lift, enhance and balance the lips. With the proper injection technique, and the right choice of filler, your lips and surrounding areas can be improved in minutes.

The result is a natural, enhanced look and a radiant, approachable smile. If you are looking to have crisp borders, symmetrical shape, and/or extra volume, lip fillers have the potential to achieve this for you.

What is the process to get lip fillers?

First you would schedule a consultation to determine if lip fillers would be a good fit for you and which filler would be best. There are actually multiple options of lip fillers, but we will get into that more below. We also will discuss just how much filler and if both your upper and lower lip.

Once all of that has been established, we can schedule your appointment to have the fillers done. At your appointment, our doctors and practitioners inject the fillers into the soft tissue with a needle. Often, more than one injection is required to achieve the desired results. The procedure typically takes 30-to-45 minutes to complete.

After you will have beautiful lips with results that last between 6-to-18 months. For some patients, the age-defying effects can last up to two years. Follow-up treatments are required to maintain the results, given the treatment is non-permanent.

Most patients experience minor swelling and bruising after a procedure. Patients can reduce these side effects by taking Arnica with Bromelain before and after treatment. To reduce the side effects of swelling or bruising, we also recommend that patients don’t consume garlic, ginger, vitamin E, Advil, ginseng and ginkgo biloba for two weeks following the procedure.

Post-procedure, patients should avoid alcohol for 24 hours and also the sun, strenuous exercise, saunas, hot tubs and hot showers.

Are Lip Fillers Painful?

Lip fillers produce immediate results without scars or downtime. The procedure is affordable and restores your vibrant look with minimal pain and discomfort. Generally speaking, most people do not find the actual procedure itself to be painful. Some find it to be a slight pain like getting a shot. Others say it is similar to getting pinched. If you are prone to pain, you can discuss your options to numb the area.

As stated above, after your lip filler appointment some minor swelling and bruising is typical. Again, to educe the side effects of swelling or bruising, we also recommend that patients don’t consume garlic, ginger, vitamin E, Advil, ginseng and ginkgo biloba for two weeks following the procedure. You can also drink pineapple juice before hand and after to help reduce swelling.
