How Do I Get Rid of My Chin Fat?

One of the most difficult areas on many people’s bodies is the area under the chin. As we age, the skin here tends to loose the tightness that it once had and becomes sagging. Even after a weight loss, this area can linger without may options to target it on your own. The good news is that there have been advancements which have lead to a new option to get rid of chin fat.

KYBELLA® for Double Chin Reduction

KYBELLA® is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.” FDA approved KYBELLA® is administered as a series of injections to the treatment area under the chin, destroying fat cells and producing gradual results.

Everyone's chin profile is different, so your physician will tailor treatment to you. Whether you are bothered by hanging jowls, want to reduce a double chin, desire a more defined jawline, or want to achieve a more streamlined profile, KYBELLA® can help restore a more youthful appearance. The number of treatment sessions will vary based on the amount of fat under the chin and your treatment goals.

How does the KYBELLA® treatment work?

What’s really cool, is that unlike a dermal filler, this treatment is permanent. The process could be considered similar to having a dermal filler done however. Both are injectables for the facial area with specific treatment options per patient. If you have ever had fillers done in the past, this will remind you of that.

During the procedure, you will lay back comfortably and the area will be numbed to reduce any irritation. Afterwards you may experience some redness at the injection site just like any other shot, but you will be able to go back to your day and function like normal (unless you choose to take the rest off and just go home to the couch and some tea! 😉we won’t tell!).

What are the Possible Side Effects of KYBELLA®?

  • Nerve injury in the jaw (which can cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness)

  • Trouble swallowing

  • Injection site problems including: bruising, hair loss, open sores (ulcers), damage and tissue cell-death (necrosis) around the injection site. Call your healthcare provider if you develop open sores or drainage from the treatment area

The most common side effects of KYBELLA® include swelling, pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness in the treatment area as mentioned above. These are not all of the possible side effects of KYBELLA®. You should always make sure to speak with your doctor for medical advice about side effects prior to having any treatments.

Who should not receive KYBELLA®?

Do not receive KYBELLA® if you have an infection in the treatment area. Currently, KYBELLA® has been approved for adults over the age of 18 by the FDA. It is not known if KYBELLA® is safe and effective for the treatment of fat outside of the submental area or in children under 18 years of age.

Before receiving KYBELLA®, tell Perich Aesthetics about all of your medical conditions, including if you:

  • Have had or plan to have surgery on your face, neck, or chin

  • Have had cosmetic treatments on your face, neck, or chin

  • Have had or have medical conditions in or near the neck area

  • Have had or have trouble swallowing

  • Have bleeding problems

  • Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant (it is not known if KYBELLA® will harm your unborn baby)

  • Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed (it is not known if KYBELLA® passes into your breast milk).

Tell Perich Aesthetics provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Especially tell your healthcare provider if you take a medicine that prevents the clotting of your blood (antiplatelet or anticoagulant medicine).

Are there other ways to get rid of my chin fat?

If injections just aren’t your thing, you may want to consider some alternatives that are also very effective and quick to do like FaceTite or Morpheus8. Both of these minimally invasive treatments use Radio Frequency Energy to heat up the deep layers of the skin to remodel and contour and can be used on the chin and neck.

FaceTite is like getting a face lift without the invasive surgery. It is great to address sagging skin in the neck, face, or both! By simultaneously melting fat and tightening the skin, a FaceTite treatment can effectively counter common signs of aging to create a more youthful appearance in just one hour at our office.

In addition, FaceTite is the most advanced treatment available for minimally invasive body contouring. It is safe, gentle, and leaves no visible scars. It involves minimal recovery time so you can get back to normal activities. The Radio Frequency waves also tighten loose skin and stimulate collagen formation so that the results continue to improve over the months following the procedure.

Morpheus8 is a microneedling device that utilizes radio frequency energy to remodel and contour the face and body via subdermal adipose remodeling. This means tiny pins penetrate the skin while the radio frequency energy is delivered to depths of 2-4 millimeters (which is predetermined per area) to remodel the collagen below, giving you a smoother, sleeker appearance.

By targeting the deeper layers of the skin, the building blocks will reorganize themselves in a natural anti-aging process. There is little to no damage to the dermis and this procedure provides an extremely uniform effect. You will notice the first visible results within a few days. Typically the most noticeable results appear after three weeks. Improvements continue up to three months after treatment.

With FaceTite or Morpheus8, you may be able to target more than just the under chin area, if that is something you are interested in doing. Before you get your heart set on one of these treatments or the other, it is best to speak with an experienced professional about your specific needs to get a game plan that makes the most sense and produces the best possible results.
