We think everyone can agree, there is something very satisfying about a deep clean, on anything really! Seeing the before and after of a deep clean just puts a smile on your face. If you have ever used a pressure washer then you know exactly what I am talking about. Getting a facial is a deep cleaning for your face and just like pressure washing shows immediate results, a facial will remove the dirt and gunk that’s built up over time to reveal fresh clean skin.

No matter how good you are at cleaning your face with great facial products, there still is environmental debris lurking in your pores. Therefore, men should definitely get facials. It’s the pressure washing you need to keep your face looking good and working hard for you. Plus it is oh so relaxing! You will feel like a million bucks after your facial- you probably will get comments about how refreshed you look from unknowing on lookers!

What is a facial?

Ok, yes this all sounds great but what exactly is a facial anyways? There are a variety of different facials you can get that target a general clean to specific concerns. A facial is an umbrella term that covers many skin care treatments for the face typically preformed by a professional. The point of a facial is to cleanse, nourish, hydrate, and exfoliate the face to promote a healthy, clear complexion. Although there are some “at home” facial products out there and you will often see on social media DIY facials, working with a licensed professional is truly what a facial is all about.

Hours of training and testing goes into become a professional- often taking over a year to complete with on-going training for new techniques and products. The face is the one area that tends to be exposed to the elements at all times, while being one of the most delicate and sensitive skin areas. This means special attention is needed and specific knowledge is required to really maximize your skins glow.

What does a facial actually do?

This all depends on the type of facial you get. As mentioned above, the overall idea is to go deeper than what you can do washing your face at home. You may have a phenomenal skin care routine, but certain ingredients, techniques, and treatments will be able to dig deeper so to speak. Any facial will give you quick, refreshed skin to help you glow naturally. People who struggle with acne often find facials regularly can be of big help to keep the skin clear.

A standard for facials is to cleanse, remove dead skin, exfoliate, hydrate, and refresh the skin. Often warm moist towels are used to steam the face with a massage of the skin in between sets. Masks and scrubs are also common practice as well as the potential for extraction- removing the buildup in pores of dead skin, oil, and dirt. This all can really vary from location and provider, which it is wise to use a reputable professional and go back to the same one so that you are getting exactly what you are expecting with high quality and personal treatment.

What kind of facials are good for men?

Men can benefit from many of the same facials that women love. Men do have thicker skin (literally) than women due to a structural difference between men's skin and women's skin. Men typically have larger oil glands and the cells in the sebaceous (oil) glands have more positive receptors for androgens. Men also usually produce more sebum than women and therefore have oilier skin. Therefore men will benefit greatly from facials.

Here at Perich Aesthetics we offer a variety of facials. Let’s take a look at the ones we frequent conduct with men:

Luxurious Gentleman’s Facial:

This facial is specifically designed for men’s skin. This 60 minute facial starts with a steam, double clean, and exfoliation. If an extractions of blackheads are needed, this is also conducted in a safe effective way. We will hydrate, use a mask, and serum to ensure the skin is nourished well. All of this for your skin and then a lovely massage for your face, neck, and shoulders. We will finish off with a high quality moisturizer to lock in all the goodness. You will come out pampered like a prince!

Acne Gone Facial:

If you suffer from acne, then this facial is perfect for you! Professional anti-acne facial helps to cleanse the skin, remove impurities, debris, and oil. Then we unclog your pores using exfoliation, which is the removal of dead skin cells. This reduces oil production and inflammation of the skin, kills acne-causing bacteria, and improves skin hydration. Hydration and clear pores are the keys to acne free skin. An Acne Gone Facial can be performed as frequently as every 2-3 weeks for some and once the skin is clear, every month or two will help to keep it that way.

Anti-Aging Facial:

If you are starting to see those common signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles or sunspots, this is a great facial to consider. This signature collagen boosting facial is designed to restore a youthful appearance to the face. Our services combine multiple steps such as exfoliation, masking, and light therapy to tackle the symptoms of aging skin. Collagen is the building blocks for your skin, though as we age our bodies produce less and less naturally. Having treatments that boost your natural production of collagen will give you natural looking results for months to come.

Muscle Tightening Facial:

Our specially designed muscle strengthening facial provides a little extra lift to your face by tightening the muscles. It’s awful hard to workout the muscles in your face at the best of gyms. Come in to see us and let this facial do the work for you. Don’t let your face be the only area left behind- if you don’t skip leg day, don’t skip facial day either! Tighter and cleaner through this facial combined with moisturizer to refresh and reset your face.

Back Facial:

Let’s face the facts men, often your back can break out and be a bit (or maybe a lot!) hairy. Where there is hair growth, there is extra oil production. Men usually produce more sebum than women and therefore have oilier skin. Sebum is basically a greasy oil that is meant to keep the skin and hair lubricated. So your back can be a hard area to clean well. Getting a back facial will help clear that skin up in true pressure washing fashion! Deep clean your back and feel so refreshed you just might want to take your shirt off for the rest of the day!

Should a man be clean shaven for a facial?

Good question! We talked just now about how men tend to produce more sebum than women on their face since they grow facial hair. This results in oily skin. To get rid of this oil a good wash and deep clean is needed, but will shaving the morning of your facial be the best bet?

Naturally one would think to get the most out of a facial, removing the hair right before would give the skin the most access for your facial. This is true, however we recommend shaving the night before instead of the morning of your facial. Removing the hair absolutely will allow your skin to be cleaned even deeper but a facial will bring new elements to your skin. Just after shaving your skin is more prone to being sensitive and can get upset when the exfoliation occurs. It’s best to let the skin calm down for a few hours, hence the night before to shave, then have all that work done.

Think of this like using a prime coat of paint. You prep the surface and prime before doing the finishing work. The results are best when you take the time to let the primer dry well then apply the paint followed by another period of drying before a top coat is put on. Smooth painting results work best when you give it time and smooth facial results are no different.
