Look Younger with the Face Refresh to Make You Glow!
Are you ready to do something about those fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots, and/or facial scars? We understand! It is time for a spring cleaning but for your face. Did you know there is a non-invasive procedure that can address all these concerns with minimal down time? Oh ya, Laser Skin Resurfacing with the Candela CO2RE Laser can do just that!
What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
This non-invasive procedure reduces the effects of aging and sun on the skin, smoothing fine lines, wrinkles, and surgical and acne scars by removing the skin’s outer layers and allowing radiant new skin cells to shine through. This treatment uses a fractional laser, which applies a matrix of light points to the skin. The laser application boosts the production of collagen, which keeps skin looking soft, supple, and smooth. It also encourages more rapid cell turnover to create a more even tone and fewer age spots.
Is laser resurfacing painful?
With the Candela CO2RE® Laser, we can adjust the intensity of the lasers based on your skin type and desired aesthetic goals for a quick, painless procedure that requires less downtime than traditional laser resurfacing. After preparing the skin for resurfacing, the surgeon applies a topical anesthetic to make the procedure more comfortable. The skin is then thoroughly cleaned before the laser is slowly applied to the targeted treatment area. Although some patients notice side effects like tingling or redness, these usually resolve within several days of the procedure.
How many laser resurfacing treatments are needed?
In many cases, our patients see the results they are looking for after their first treatment! The CO2 laser stimulates the body to produce its own natural collagen as the skin heals. After the treatment your skin will gradually look softer, smoother and with less unwanted pigment. Over time, the fine line, wrinkles, age spots and uneven texture will start to show improvement.
Which is better chemical peel or laser resurfacing?
As with many things, each procedure has its place and specific benefits. One of the biggest things to consider is the different techniques: a chemical peel is just as the name implies. It uses chemicals on the face to cause the skin to peel, thus causing new skin to show and regenerate underneath. The laser resurfacing uses a laser to penetrate deeper into the skin causing the production of collagen to increase.
From a holistic perspective, we tend to favor the laser resurfacing to avoid those hard chemicals. Additionally, the laser is a more precise procedure that can be tailored to specific areas of the face without worry of potential problematic areas being affected. The laser is able to do deeper than a chemical peel, giving you better results for deep wrinkles, sun spots, or scarring. The chemical peel can treat the surface fine lines, but will not be able to have the same smoothing and tightening effect of the laser.
What is the difference between dermabrasion and laser resurfacing?
The answer to this is similar in many ways to the answers above about the chemical peel, however a dermabrasion is a different process that does not use the chemicals to work on the outer layer of the skin. Instead, an instrument is used to exfoliate the outer layers of the skin to then be gently removed while stimulating collagen production. This process similarly does not go as deep to correct multiple concerns on the skin, like the laser can. Typically, you need more than one treatment to really see the results you are looking for.
Your best bet, regardless of which kind of treatment you may be leaning towards, is to speak with a professional, like Dr. Perich, to consult you and your individual needs.
